A Simple Comparative Review of TailwindCSS Component Libraries as of Late 2025

TailwindCSS component libraries are so numerous that it's hard to choose. shadcn/ui is elegant but not comprehensive enough, while Origin UI has piled on 500+ components—these days, even UIs are getting competitive? Big and complete or small and refined, think clearly before choosing whether you want to spend overtime tweaking styles.

Foreword

This article was originally planned to be published in September, but before I knew it, it was already the end of November 😂

In my previous article AI-Era Full-Stack Frameworks: Opportunities and Challenges for Independent Developers, I discussed how in the AI era, full-stack frameworks like Next.js are the most suitable choice for independent developers, and on the front-end interface level, TailwindCSS has become a standard tool almost everyone uses.

However, TailwindCSS is no longer just an atomic CSS tool; it has spawned an entire universe of component libraries.

When working on my own projects, my first choice is often shadcn/ui, whose approach is "low-level + highly customizable," helping you quickly assemble a design system. The problem is that it only provides basic components (buttons, input fields, Tabs, Modals…). When you need more complex UI modules, you’ll find it "not comprehensive enough."

This leads to a decision: should you add another more versatile library? Should you go for something lightweight or design-focused? Is there something suitable for marketing pages?

From Flowbite to Rewind-UI, and the recently popular Origin UI, each library has its highlights but also leaves developers facing a dilemma of choice.

To help you avoid common pitfalls, I’ve compiled a 2025 TailwindCSS Component Library Comparison, summarizing their features and suitable scenarios in plain language, so you can quickly select the right one based on your project needs.

PS: In fact, component libraries based on Tailwind CSS are abundant. This article only selects a few for testing. Feel free to add more~

Evaluation Dimensions

Before diving into specific libraries, let's establish a few reference dimensions:

  • Development Experience: TypeScript support, customization difficulty, documentation quality.
  • Component Coverage: Whether there are many components and whether it covers common scenarios.
  • Accessibility (a11y): Whether it follows ARIA standards and is suitable for accessible scenarios.
  • Themes and Styles: Whether it's easy to switch themes or customize styles.
  • Suitable Scenarios: Rapid prototyping, design alignment, lightweight elegance, etc.

Frontend Component Library Supplement

Preferring component libraries based on Tailwind CSS for easier customization.

Beyond shadcn/ui, I selected these component libraries for testing.

Flowbite React

https://flowbite-react.com/

This is the React version of one of the first Tailwind CSS component libraries I used, and it works quite well~

Header

  • A rich set of UI components (navigation bars, cards, forms, modals, tables, etc.) all built with React + TailwindCSS, supporting TypeScript, offering deep customization, and adhering to accessibility standards.
  • Ideal for projects that require many pre-built modules and aim for a quick start.

Rewind-UI

https://rewind-ui.dev

image-20250919104012098

  • Accessible, lightweight, pre-styled, and built entirely for React + Tailwind, constructed with cva, supporting type safety and theming.
  • Praised by the community for being "pre-styled, customizable, out-of-the-box, lightweight, and Tree-shakeable" Reddit, making it ideal for developers seeking a clean experience.

daisyUI

https://daisyui.com

Nexus Dashboard 3

  • No JavaScript, only CSS classes provide rich themes and components, widely applicable, components are more abundant than shadcn, with many theme options.
  • If you want to avoid JS dependencies and enjoy switching themes without writing much code, this is a neat tool.

TailGrids React

https://tailgrids.com/

hero-banner

  • Provides over 600 React and Tailwind CSS components and modules, covering marketing pages, dashboards, and more, with Figma-compatible design support.
  • If you need a massive array of UI combinations, or your design team uses Figma, TailGrids is an excellent fit.

Origin UI

https://originui.com/

I am currently using this as a supplement to shadcn/ui. It’s fantastic to have hundreds of components ready to use all at once, plus there are several free layout templates—highly recommended!

AI Chat

  • A library that gained significant attention recently (February 2025), offering over 500 copy-and-use components built with React + TailwindCSS. It is an extension of shadcn Reddit.
  • Developers have remarked, “500+ components is insane!” and “Can use it by tomorrow!” Reddit.

It has also been praised by video creators as an evolved version of shadcn YouTube—definitely worth checking out.

HeroUI (formerly NextUI)

https://www.heroui.com/

This is another one I used relatively early on.

I previously used it on my older website, when it was still called NextUI.

Later, after some upgrades, it unexpectedly became incompatible with Next.js, leading to a bunch of strange issues. Eventually, I just decided to rebuild the entire site and temporarily stopped using it.

However, this component library does have its own distinct characteristics.

While other component libraries are pursuing Material Design, this one has a slightly Apple-esque style that really caught my eye the first time I saw it.

But for some reason, it later started causing many issues and even changed its name...

Those interested can give it a try.

Component Snippets

Libraries like shadcn/ui and origin ui are positioned as low-level UI components, such as buttons, input fields, tabs, modals, etc., making it easy to assemble your own design system within a project.

Components like Hero sections, Footers, Pricing tables, and Features, which are at the landing page level, fall under marketing/landing page modules and generally are not included in these foundational UI libraries.

To avoid reinventing the wheel, you might want to look at these component snippet collections:

  1. Tailwind Components - A community collection of various free hero/footer components.
  2. https://www.creative-tim.com/twcomponents - Similar to the above, this is also a community-collected set of snippets.
  3. HyperUI - Features common landing page sections like heroes, footers, pricing, and galleries, with code ready to copy and paste.
  4. Tailblocks - An online assembler where you can select different modules to generate a complete landing page.

Reflections & Summary

In the future, component libraries may evolve in two directions:

  1. Comprehensive (大而全) (like Origin/TailGrids), covering 80% of scenarios.
  2. Refined (小而精) (like Rewind-UI/Taila), focusing on developer experience (DX) and accessibility.

With the development of AI-assisted UI generation, component libraries might transform into "AI prompts → code snippets," and the boundary between Figma and code will become increasingly blurred.

I hope this comparison review helps reduce your decision fatigue.

So the question is: which Tailwind component library are you currently using in your projects? What pitfalls have you encountered?

Feel free to leave a comment to share your thoughts. I will also continue to update this "Frontend Selection Comparison" series of articles.

使用国内NPM镜像源提高速度

NPM介绍 npm(全称 Node Package Manager,即“node包管理器”)是Node.js默认的、以JavaScript编写的软件包管理系统。
